Every girl and woman is crazy when it comes to jewellery. But jewellery is not affordable to many. Therefore people belonging to lower and middle class try different things to satisfy their passion for jewellery. Most of the people buy cheap jewellery to remain in fashion. As everyone can’t afford to remain in fashion but by buying cheap jewellery, you can change your jewellery continuously. You can also buy different jewellery for different dresses and outfits because of their cheaper rates.

But wearing cheap jewellery has a darker side as well. Many people complain that the jewellery leaves black marks on their skin. This is due to the bad material used in the jewellery to make it affordable to the lower class families. Cheap jewellery also has an allergic effect. Mostly it is due to the nickel in the jewellery. Nickel is a silvery-white natural metal. Usually it is mixed with other metals to make an alloy. Nickel alloys are useful in making coins, costume jewellery (i.e., rings, bracelets and necklaces) and surgical stainless steal. As we can see that nickel is involved in our daily life items. Therefore it is likely for us to come into direct skin contact. But the nickel is harmful for the skin as it is a common cause of skin rashes and allergy. Nickel allergy is more common in women than men because most of the women are passionate about jewellery. If women don’t have enough money, they go for cheap jewellery. As nickel is a cheap metal and is used in many cheap jewellery products. Body piercing is common in women than men. This also puts the individual at a risk of becoming easily sensitizes to the metal.

Nickel allergy is simply a reaction that occurs when a skin is exposed to the nickel or the jewellery item containing nickel. But degree of reaction also varies from person to person depending on the person’s susceptibility. In short nickel allergy is a direct contact allergy. It can be occur at any age and the area of the skin which is exposed to nickel appears as dry, red pigmented and rashly with water blister. The affected area by the allergy is usually restricted to the contact. But once the nickel allergy developed, it can be life long.

Nickel allergy can be tested by patch test of skin. Patch test is a safe procedure to test the skin. If the patch test of the skin is positive, it means that a person is allergic to nickel. But sometimes its result is unclear and cannot be determined. This requires further examination. If anyone is allergic to nickel than she must discontinue wearing cheap jewellery or exposure to the nickel containing items. By doing this you can be able to take a first step towards cure.

By keeping this in mind, one must avoid using cheap jewellery. If you want to do body piercing than do it by the stainless steel needle. Use 18kt gold studs until the skin is not completely healed.
